In this lesson you’re going to be introduced to Santa and Banta. They’ve been planning a trip to India for ages. On their itinerary are the Golden Temple, the Kulu valley, the Himalayan ranges in Leh. and the historic Delhi, the capital city.

As they’re on the plane to Delhi, they chat with the airline stewardess in Hindi. Listen to the conversation multiple times as you read along.

Santa : Maaf kijiye, miss. Suvidha-kaksh kidhar hai?

Stewardess : Vo kebin ke pichhe ki taraf hai.

Santa makes his way to the restrooms. Meanwhile, Banta is feeling hungry. The rest of the passengers in the airplane are asleep. He asks the next cabin attendant who passes by…

Banta : Maaf kijiye. Jalpaan kab milegaa?

Attendant : Paanch ghante baad. Kyaa bhukh lagee hai?

Banta : Haan, mujhe bahut bhukh lagee hai.

Attendant : Mai apko ek paiket aaloo-chips de sakataa hoon.

Banta : Dhanyvaad.

Santa returns to the seat just as an airline stewardess bring a packet of potato chips for Banta. Santa looks hurt. He tells Banta, “You didn’t get any for me!” “No,” says Banta. “I didn’t know you wanted any.” Santa turns to the stewardess and asks

Santa : Kyaa kuchh peene ke liye laa sakate hain? Mujhe pyaas lagee hai.

Stewardess : Haan, mahoday. Aap kyaa pasand karenge?

Santa : Ek beer, kripayaa.

Stewardess : Awasya. Ek minute
